ARTHUR LYDIARD

1917-2004

Arthur Lydiard died on Sunday 12th December in Texas whilst on a promotional and speaking tour.

Arthur was the founder of the Auckland Joggers Club and one of its Patrons for many years.   He was an inspiration to all of our members.

Arthur was also an inspiration to ‘ordinary’ New Zealanders as well, as he advocated running for all as a way to keep fit and healthy.   The ‘Round the Bays’ fun run in Auckland was one of the biggest events that the Auckland Joggers Club started with Arthur’s patronage.   Round the bays carries on to this day providing a vehicle for fitness and friendship for Aucklanders in their tens of thousands in March each year.

Arthur will be remembered as a coach of many of New Zealand’s successful Middle and Long distance runners, but we at the Auckland Joggers Club will remember him as a friend, Patron, and the person who inspired us ordinary folk into a way of life that kept us fit and healthy.

Arthur we will miss you!
